It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Donard School! On Thursday 3rd December pupils enjoyed a performance of Beauty and the Beast brought to school by The West Midlands Children’s Theatre Company. We can definitely say it was enjoyed by young and old alike!
All Saint’s Parish Church in Tullylish is hosting a Christmas Tree Festival from Friday 4th December to Sunday 6th December.
Each pupil in Donard School has made a decoration to display on our own tree.
The theme of the Festival is ‘Chirtsmas Carols’ and each pupil’s work is displayed on our tree with the theme “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night”.
All are welcome over the weekend and admission is free.
Fourth Year Students from Stranmillis College came to visit our School on Thursday 26th November to see some of the activities that our Sensory Learners enjoy. We had a Super Sensory Christmas morning in the Assembly, showcasing many of the types of activity our pupils experience on a regular basis. The students all got thoroughly involved, with a certain lecturer from Stranmillis threatening to kidnap a certain boy in Class 4! You can see from the photographs that a good time was had by all!
Pupils have been making BIG noises at our weekly drumming workshops!
On Friday 6th November Donard School Choir were in fine tune when they made their way to the local speech and drama festival. They performed two songs from the hit musical Grease and brought the cup back to school!
31 brave pupils had the courage to stand up and recite individual poems for the judges which they had practiced in school and at home for many weeks. Congratulations to them all, and especially our medal winners!
The pupils and staff from Junior School got together on Monday 26th October to enjoy some crafty fun!
We are near our half term break already. We are celebrating our holidays by having a fancy dress parade, games and a D.I.S.C.O. Everyone enjoyed their last day of school before getting off for a whole week until Wednesday 4th November. Donard Special School would like to say ‘enjoy your half term break and we will see everyone next Wednesday’.

Today saw the launch of our charity fundraiser with a whole school ‘Smartie Party’. Our chosen Charity is one that is particularly close to our hearts – Diabetes UK.
Pupils got the opportunity to ditch the uniform for the day and wear their own clothes – so long as they were brightly coloured and matched the Smarties that we ate for break. Pupils and staff got together for a whole school snack to show off their colourful clothes and food. Each pupil left with an empty Smartie tube and a challenge to raise funds for a very worthy cause by filling the tube with 20p coins. Money will be collected after the mid-term break.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Donard School in raising funds for Diabetes UK.
The pupils and staff of Donard School gathered for a service of thanksgiving to celebrate Harvest. The pupils sang, danced and said paryers of thanks to God.
