Class 3 - PDMU topic of ‘Water Safety’

Through our PDMU topic of ‘Water Safety’ the pupils have been learning and talking about being safe around different sources of water. We talked about dangers of water in the home e.g. baths and boiling water in kettles. We discussed dangers of ponds, rivers, lakes and at the beach.

Our last focus was on safety at the pool. The pupils composed and wrote a letter to a lifeguard inviting him in to talk to us about safety at the pool. They also decided on questions they should ask him. On Monday 7th March Mr Buchanan kindly came into our class and talked to us about keeping safe at the pool. He brought some arm bands, water discs and floats for us to look at. The pupils had a great morning and we would like to thank Mr Buchanan for coming.

Sod Cutting Ceremony

Education Minister John O’Dowd visited our school on Friday 22 January to mark the commencement of work following £1.18 million investment under the School Enhancement Programme.

Mr O’Dowd was joined by Mr Gavin Boyd from Education Authority (Southern Region) as well as Mr J Smyth (Chairperson to Board of Governors). Representatives from Education Authority and Woodvale Construction also attended the event.

During the visit the Minister met with staff and pupils of the school and carried out a sod cutting to mark the occasion.

Class 3 welcomed our guests and made a Card for the Minister. Shane McArdle in Class 3 helped the Minister at the sod cutting event.

This new provision for our school will allow for four new classrooms, an extended dining area and a new ICT room and School library.
